BuildMeUpButtercupBlog (2016-2020) was the diary of a middle-aged mom in construction school. After a decade as a journalist covering Nashville’s restaurant industry, I enrolled at Tennessee College of Applied Technology in Nashville. The last time I had been in a classroom, I got an art history degree, followed by an MBA. This time, I earned a diploma in Building Construction Technology. Build Me Up Buttercup chronicled the experience of learning to build things, while building myself up as a person. Along the way, I was named the 2018 Outstanding Technical School Student of the Year for Tennessee — and won a car!
